Hello Friends & Family 4/10/2011

Dear Family and Friends April 10, 2011,
We have had a busy week and we never taught piano lessons this week.  The kids had a school break for this week and we learned if we go to teach they are not home.  They go off some where.  Monday, we participated in sending one Elder home and moving two other Elders.  We drove to Mooi River where Elder Zweifel met us and took all three Elders to Durban.     Ladysmith Elders went too, it took both cars to transport the Elders stuff.

Tuesday we went out to a township that is about a half hour drive from here.  We took a member from Ladysmith, Roger Mullins to help build a toilet for one of the members.  Elder Husdon and Roger moved dirt, leveled a spot to put the toilet and then pour cement.  Now, I bet you think they went to the store and bought two bags of ready mix and you just add water to make concrete.  Wrong, they were given two bags of rocks with sand on top and two bags of cement.  Then we had to walk about a block to the water pump and pump the water to mix the cement.  We went out again on Wednesday to check the concrete and see how it was curring.  Thursday, we got Roger again to go out and start digging the hole.  We had a pick, two shovels, and a iron rod.  The two worked for three hours and had only dug two feet.  This ground is hard red clay.  Roger said he had the flu, but he helped anyway.  Elder Hudson decided the two Ladysmith Elders needed some charity time.  So, Friday we come out with the two Elders and still only get the hole down to four feet.  Saturday, we went back with the two Elders and they really like the way Elder Hudson can dig, so much so that they were letting hime chip away and then shovel the dirt ouy of the hole.  They had been working for two hours and two black men came by and said they were looking for work.  Elder Hudson ask how much to finish digging the hole.  He agreed to give them R200.  He told them that he needed to take the Elders to town and he would come back and pay them at 2.  We came into town and changed to missionary clothes and went back out.  We were back at 1.  They were not done yet.  So, at 2 Elder Hudson paid them and they were to give the shovel to the son of the lady we are doing this for.  Elder Hudson was just glad to have the hole dug.  We will make arrangements to have the toilet delivered and then he will put it into place this week.  The toilet is made with angle iron and sheet metal because they have a real bad problem with termites here.

We were able to get the bank deposet done for the Ezakheni Branch during the week too.  We did grocery shopping for us.  We had pictures made of the Relief Society's Birthday parties at Ezakheni and Ladysmith.  So, you can see we were busy.

Today we went to church at Ladysmith.  It was there branch conference.  The first councelor came and the Relief Society presidency was here.  A very poor showing from the District Presidency.  I went into primary to help teach songs to the children.  They have about five new songs to learn.  I told the children they sing like angels.

I asked Elder Hudson if he wanted to write something and he said his arms were too sore.  We have attached a few pictures of the toilet project.  One picture is Elder Hudson pumping water, one picture is Elder Hudson and Roger mixing cement, one picture is Elder Hudson digging while the two Ladysmith Elders watch and the last picture are the two men Elder Hudson hired to finish digging the hole.

We are enjoying South Africa and the people.  We miss our family and love you all.  Thanks for your kind notes to us.  We appreciate notes from you.

Love from South Africa
Sister & Elder Hudson
